Scalp Exercise Video

Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

Here is our recent instructional Scalp Exercise Video which is to be done at home prior to a Hair Restoration

Scalp Exercise Video

It is very important to do these scalp exercises prior to a hair restoration procedure as it increases the laxity needed for the Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT) strip method. When the skin laxity on the back of the head is increased, the size of the donor strip is also increased and more hair grafts can be transplanted in one surgery as well as receive minimal scar results. This pre-operational exercise has helped to move the hair restoration industry forward into having larger one-time procedures which has helped to save time and money for both the patients and physicians. Taking the necessary time to properly do these will help to bring about the best possible results.

Is My Donor Hair Thick Enough for Hair Transplantation?

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011

Q:

Miniaturization Study Performed on A Balding MaleIs my donor area thick enough and did I have any signs of miniaturization there? Most men I have seen that are bald on top have a much thicker back area of their hair that is not affected by mpb than I do. From your experience and knowledge is it good enough not only to be used as a donor now, but also in the future if I need to cover crown or do any other procedure. It seems to me that my hair is too thin in the back to conceal a scar and that it might possibly thin out a lot when im older. But I’m not a professional so please give me your opinion and insight. The scars all look thin enough for contentment but its when you dont have hair growing around it making it look like someone scrapped a bald line in the back of your head with a hair cutting tool.

A:

When I reviewed your microscopic exam I found it to shows you have only 10% miniaturization in that particular area.  Less than 20% hair miniaturization measurement is within normal range for someone with male pattern baldness (MPB). As we discussed before, if you keep your hair the same length as during your consultation, you should not be able to see the scar. We perform double edged trichophytic closure for most patients which minimizes the visibility of a scar even when you decide to keep your hair very short.

New Statistics in Hair Restoration Science

Saturday, November 19th, 2011

Official Logo for the International Society of Hair Restoration SurgeryAt the 2011 International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) Scientific Meeting, the updated statistics for the Hair Restoration industry were released. Hair Restoration continues to be a growing branch in the cosmetic surgery field for decades now.  The new data shows that it continues to be emerging exponentially and in 2010 there was an estimated 279,381 surgical hair restoration procedures, an 11% increase over the 2008 census. The United States alone reported 101,252 surgical procedures in 2010 as well.

The ratio between male to female hair transplantation patients in 2010 was 85.9% to 14.1%.  Since 2004, the number of female hair restoration patients has increased 24% which might be due to the better techniques of evaluation of female hair loss and better methods of determining the eligibility of the women with hair loss for hair transplantation.  Since 2008, eyelash, eyebrow, and face hair restorations procedures increased 14.2%. In the US alone, mustache and beard procedures nearly doubled (1,369 to 2,382).

Hair Restoration Educational Webinars at US Hair Restoration

Friday, November 4th, 2011

US Hair Restoration is excited to begin 2012 with a new Webinar series that allows for patients and curious onlookers to connect with Dr. Mohebi personally and ask their hair loss questions first hand. Each webinar will focus on different topics from “why balding happens” to “Breakthrough technology in Hair Restoration.” Each webinar will be equipped with a meet and greet, informative interactive conversation such as hair loss, hair restoration, latest techniques of hair restoration, etc. with Parsa Mohebi, MD. There will also be time for question and answers which may include special incentives for those who are interested in a hair loss consultation and hair transplantation.

Webinars are a growing craze which give a personal touch from the presenter to the audience. More and more corporations and special interest groups are connecting from several places around the world to one central location through this readily available medium. We at US Hair Restoration are excited to have this time to answer the many different questions given by people wanting to know more about the art and science of hair restoration, as well as those wanting simply to know “what do I get out of it?”

There are constant hair loss and hair restoration questions coming to US Hair Restoration that get answered over the phone, email, or have a blog written about them. Still, many feel they don’t have answers readily available for their questions. This hair restoration webinar series will give place for those questions to be answered in an open forum where Dr. Mohebi is available to answer all the questions himself. This is a great way to start the New Year off with an innovative, more personal way to connect to individuals.

We are excited to expand the ways we can stay in touch with everyone in our first webinar on January 9th, 2012 at 6 PM Pacific Standard Time. To sign up please send us an email to webinar@ushairrestoration.com or call us at (888) 302-8747. Space is limited and on a first come, first serve basis. Have a great week and see you on January 9th!

Hair Loss After Hair Restoration

Tuesday, November 1st, 2011

Q:

Permanent shock loss- in the front center mostly and also areas in the temples. Is it likely from your experience that hair like mine will survive?

A:

Shock Loss After Hair TransplantAlthough could be seen in some patients for the first few months after surgery, taking finasteride will minimize or, in most cases, eliminate that risk in the majority of patients.  However, if you do experience shock loss, it won’t be for more than 2-3 months and after that time, your transplanted hair will begin to re-grow. It is by then that your hair should look much better than it did before.
