Hair Transplantation: Am I Crazy If I Really Go For It?

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011

Q:

I was told that a spot has opened up for my hair transplant surgery. I told them to slot me in, but now that I’ve jumped into the deep end I’m a bit nervous. My nerves don’t have to do with what it will look like six months or a year from now, but for the weeks following the surgery.
I need to take the next day to really meditate on this. Although my hair loss does bother me, it’s not as if I’m noticeably bald. So I’m deciding if this is something that makes sense for me.

A:

It is completely normal to have a touch of nervousness prior to this elective surgery. Since it is an elective procedure, it is common to have questions and/or
reservations. We need to remember that it is simply hair and not some life threatening procedure! Many patients have this reluctance and there is never a clear or definitive answer aside from your intuitive feelings.

Your particular situation is for the enhancement and detailing in order to complement what you already currently have. Your hair loss is probably going to progress in the future but again, it depends on when you want to address the issue.

Having experienced seeing many other patients who had similar feelings before their hair restoration procedure, I think you will very happy you did it!! Either way, I support whatever decision you make. US Hair Restoration is always going to be a resource for you with whatever questions or concerns you have regarding hair loss and the treatment options available.

Meditate  on that assurance and clarity will present itself!

Finasteride to Prevent Shock Loss After Hair Transplant

Monday, January 24th, 2011

Q:

Dr. Mohebi,

I would like to thank you for the time you spent with me during my consultation.

propecia, finasteride, propecia for hair loss, hair loss medication, finasteride for hair lossYou were thorough, knowledgeable and willing to spend as much time with me as was necessary in order to answer all my numerous questions.

I would also like to thank your office staff for their friendly and courteous treatment.

I have a  question regarding the prescription for Finasteride.  Am I to begin this prescription regimen immediately, just prior to surgery, or after hair transplant surgery?

I am certain you directed me at the time, but with all the info I had to digest, I somehow forgot whatever it was you said regarding the prescription.

Thanks in advance for your time in addressing my question.

A:

I am glad you had a good experience with our office.  I always enjoy having patients who present educated questions.  Below are my responses to your recent questions:

We are prescribing finasteride to you in order to prevent shock loss in the areas at the edge of your balding area following hair transplantation.  I generally recommend starting this medication about a week before surgery so it is locked in your system and shock loss could be prevented.  You should then continue this mediation for the fist 8 months following surgery, which is the time that you are most at risk for losing hair due to shock loss.

It does not matter what time of day you use Finasteride, as long as you are sure to take it once every day.
We look forward to see you soon.

Have a great weekend

Hair Loss and Topical Shampoo Use

Tuesday, December 21st, 2010

Q:

Hey Doctor,

Hope all is well. My name is XXXX. I came in last Saturday for consultation. I forgot to ask you about shampoo use and hair loss. Does the brand of shampoo have an effect? Do you have any recommendations? I use baby johnson, the goldish yellow one. My friend suggested Nioxin, do you know anything about this brand. He gave me one bottle numbered with a 1 for early stages of thinning and the other numbered 2 for noticeably thinning. Should I make use of it? And which bottle would I make use of? Sorry with all the bother and questions.  Thank You so much I really appreciate it. Have a great weekend.

A:

There are many shampoos currently on the market which have claimed to be useful for hair loss treatment and/or prevention.  Some of them may have active ingredents like minoxidil which is a proven hair loss topical medication.  However,  since shampoos don’t stay on the scalp for an extended amount of time and are rinsed off after only a few minutes, the active ingredients do not have adequate time to be absorbed from the skin level.  Minoxidil is the most effective ingredient of these shampoos.  We do recommend its use as simple topical solution which is to be applied twice a day and left on scalp for its maximum effectiveness.  Most other products and shampoos that contain minerals and vitamins do not help since the active ingredients are not even absorbed from the scalp skin.  You can see more on this in our several posts on hair loss shampoo and the brand shampoos for hair loss that are in the market of different brand.

Best Ever Price For a Hair Transplant

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

hair transplant cost reductionAccording to a recent L.A. Times article, people in our current economy are scaling back on elective cosmetic treatments, and finding ways to negotiate costs and figuring out what’s really necessary (e.g. Botox) and what’s not (e.g. massages and body scrubs).  We have posted on Recession and hair transplant cost before.

US Hair Restoration understands that people have found themselves in challenging economic circumstances. Our goal has always been, “offering quality hair transplant for everyone”. We want to relieve the pressure on people by responding to patients’ needs for more affordable hair transplant prices.

Every year, we have a summer hair transplant special, but this year, we’re going to offer it several months in advance as part of an unprecedented and huge hair transplant cost reduction. And we promise it will be the lowest price ever for our hair transplants using our standby program.

For those who are seriously considering getting a hair restoration procedure, the best time to get one is when we have this reduced-price offer. This is a limited offer and the price might not ever be this low. Now is the time to take advantage of it.

Offering hair transplant cost discounts in our standby program helps us to fill all openings in our operating room schedules. On the other hand, for those people who can be a bit more flexible with the timing of the surgery, it helps them get a US Hair Restoration-quality hair transplant done at historically low rates, at one of our Southern California offices: Beverly Hills, Encino, and Orange County.

The bright side to the recession is that retailers and companies are offering lower-than-usual prices for their products, knowing consumers have become increasingly tight-fisted about their cash. Our earlier-than-usual summer special is our way of saying we are sensitive to our patients’ financial circumstances.

Check US Hair Restoration for more info on our hair transplant promotions.
